The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the St. Louis Blues 7-3 at United Center on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to four games with a dominant performance in front of 17,224 fans.
Oliver Moore and Connor Murphy scored during Chicago's explosive four-goal second period. Moore, Murphy, Louis Crevier and Landon Slaggert each recorded a goal and an assist as the Blackhawks improved to 18-18-7 on the season and 2-1-0 against St. Louis this year.
Spencer Knight made 27 saves for Chicago. Nick Lardis, Jason Dickinson and Andre Burakovsky also scored for the Blackhawks, who went 3-for-4 on the power play. Chicago has now killed all eight penalties during their four-game win streak.
First Period
Tyler Tucker opened the scoring for St. Louis at 7:14 of the first period. Nick Lardis responded for Chicago at 13:09 to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
Dominant Second Period
Oliver Moore gave Chicago a 2-1 lead at 7:05 of the second period. Otto Stenberg tied the game at 2-2 with his first career NHL goal at 8:22, but the Blackhawks regained the lead just 35 seconds later when Connor Murphy scored his first goal of the season at 8:57.
The Blackhawks extended their lead to 4-2 at 12:27 when Landon Slaggert deflected Colton Dach's shot past Jordan Binnington. Jason Dickinson made it 5-2 at 17:24, redirecting Louis Crevier's shot for his fifth goal of the season.
The four-goal period gave Chicago complete control of the game heading into the third period.
Third Period
Andre Burakovsky extended Chicago's lead to 6-2 with a power-play goal at 5:11 of the third period. It was Burakovsky's first goal since December 20 and his 10th of the season.
Nathan Walker scored for St. Louis at 8:44 to cut the deficit to 6-3. Louis Crevier completed the scoring at 16:07 with Chicago's third power-play goal of the night, making the final score 7-3.
Power Play Prowess
Chicago's power play was the difference, converting three of four opportunities. St. Louis went 0-for-5 with the man advantage. The Blackhawks have now killed all eight penalties during their four-game winning streak.
Jordan Binnington stopped 28 shots for St. Louis, which fell to 17-19-8 on the season and 7-10-3 on the road.
Bedard Update
The Blackhawks improved to 5-6-1 in 12 games since Connor Bedard injured his right shoulder during a December 12 loss at St. Louis. Bedard participated in the team's morning skate Wednesday and could return as soon as Friday against Washington.
Pregame Tribute
The Blackhawks observed a pregame moment of silence for Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Glenn Hall and former coach and general manager Bob Pulford. Hall, who helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 1961, died Wednesday at age 94. Pulford died Monday.
