MIAMI β After Monday's 9-4 blowout win felt like a turning point, the White Sox trip to Miami ended with back-to-back beatdowns. This one was the worst yet.
Sandy Alcantara threw a complete game shutout on just 93 pitches β retiring all but three White Sox hitters he faced β as the Marlins cruised to a 10-0 win on Wednesday afternoon at loanDepot park. Chicago managed just three singles, didn't draw a walk, and was shut out for the first time in 2026. The White Sox lose the series 2-1 and fall to 1-5.

Alcantara Was Untouchable
There wasn't a competitive at-bat for most of the afternoon. Alcantara threw first-pitch strikes to 21 of the 31 batters he faced, didn't walk anyone, struck out 7, and finished with a Game Score of 88. He needed just 93 pitches β 69 strikes β to get through all nine innings. The White Sox hit nothing hard and never put two baserunners on in the same inning. It was the kind of start that makes the game feel like it's being played on two different levels.
Over Before It Started
Shane Smith's afternoon was a disaster. Miami scored four in the first β Liam Hicks drove in Jakob Marsee with a single, Connor Norby doubled home Otto Lopez, and Owen Caissie singled to left to plate Hicks and Norby. It was 4-0 before the Sox had seen a pitch from Alcantara. Hicks came back in the second with a two-run homer to right (347 feet) to make it 6-0, and Javier Sanoja singled home two more in the third. By the time Smith was pulled, he'd allowed 8 hits, 8 runs (7 earned), and 2 walks in 3 innings. His ERA through two starts: 19.29.

Hicks finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and now leads all of MLB with 12 RBI through six games. He's slashing .467/.526/1.133 β and the White Sox pitching staff has no answer for him. He drove in at least one run in all three games of the series.
Zero Everything
The White Sox offensive line reads like a misprint: 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 extra-base hits, 0 walks, 0 RBI. Only Chase Meidroth, Tristan Peters, and Luisangel AcuΓ±a managed singles. The Sox were outscored 19-2 in the final two games of this series after the 9-4 win in the opener. That Tuesday loss feels like the start of a spiral now.
Lucas Sims was the one bright spot on the mound β 2 scoreless innings in relief with 1 hit allowed and a strikeout. But the game was 8-0 by the time he entered.
