Boisvert Scores First Career Goal as Blackhawks Snap Five-Game Skid With 4-2 Win Over Kraken

Sacha Boisvert scored his first career NHL goal. It held up as the game-winner. And for the first time in nearly two weeks, the Blackhawks won a hockey game. Chicago beat the Seattle Kraken 4-2 at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak, getting goals from four different scorers and 25 saves from Arvid Soderblom. The Blackhawks improve to 28-35-14.

The first period was scoreless, with Soderblom turning away all nine Seattle shots including a Matty Beniers backhand that hit the post. Chicago broke through at 9:15 of the second on the power play — Bedard fed Teuvo Teravainen at the left hashmarks, and Teravainen walked across the circle and poked a shot inside the left post that trickled in off Grubauer's skate. Tyler Bertuzzi doubled the lead with 22.2 seconds left in the period, tucking in a rebound off an Andre Burakovsky shot for his 32nd of the season — extending his career high. Ilya Mikheyev and Wyatt Kaiser picked up the assists.

Seattle made it interesting in the third. Jaden Schwartz scored at 10:48 to cut it to 2-1, and suddenly the Blackhawks — who had been so comfortable for 50 minutes — were hanging on. But Boisvert answered less than two and a half minutes later. He streaked down the slot on an odd-man rush, took a pass from Kevin Korchinski, and fired a one-timer past Grubauer to restore the two-goal lead at 3-1. Kaapo Kakko made it 3-2 just 70 seconds after that, but Mikheyev sealed it with an empty-net goal at 18:48, assisted by Kaiser and Bedard. Bedard's two assists pushed his career point total to 199.

The New-Look Roster

This was the Boisvert game. The 2024 18th overall pick, who made his NHL debut in Philadelphia on March 26, scored his first goal in his fifth career game — and it came at the exact moment Chicago needed it. The Blackhawks had just seen a 2-0 lead trimmed to 2-1, the building was getting loud, and Boisvert buried a one-timer on the rush to take the air out of it. He played 9:18 across 12 shifts, won 2 of 5 faceoffs, and put 2 shots on goal. After the game, he said it felt even better because it was his first NHL win. With the additions of Boisvert and Anton Frondell, the Blackhawks now have six players from their last three drafts getting NHL reps every night.

Soderblom got the start over Spencer Knight and delivered his best game in weeks — 25 saves on 27 shots for a .926 save percentage. He kept the Kraken off the board through two full periods and made timely stops when Seattle pushed in the third. Bertuzzi continues to be one of the most productive players on the roster — 32 goals now, a number that would have seemed ambitious in October. Bedard was quietly excellent, picking up two assists and winning 13 of 21 faceoffs (61.9%) in 17:41 of ice time. His next point will be career number 200.

Frondell was held off the scoresheet for the third straight game after posting points in each of his first four NHL contests. He played 16:50, took a tripping penalty in the third period, and won just 2 of 9 faceoffs — the faceoff dot remains the biggest adjustment for the 18-year-old. He's now played 7 of a possible 9 games before the first year of his entry-level contract burns. With five games left in the season, the decision on whether to let that ninth game happen is coming soon.

Looking Ahead

The road trip wraps up Monday at the San Jose Sharks (9:00 p.m. CT) — the final road game of the season. Then it's four straight at the United Center: Carolina on Thursday, St. Louis on Saturday (with the inaugural Blackhawks Hall of Fame on-ice ceremony), Buffalo on Monday April 13, and the season finale against San Jose on April 15. At 28-35-14 and 70 points with 5 games remaining, the Blackhawks need two more wins to reach the 30-win benchmark. Seattle drops to 32-32-11 and 75 points — six points out of the final wild card spot with seven games left and fading fast, losers of four straight and 5-12-2 since the Olympic break.
